About Me

Dr. Md. Towfiqur Rahman is a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities. His current research focuses on developing innovative technologies for dairy lameness detection by integrating computer vision, data science, and artificial intelligence. This work aims to enhance animal welfare and promote the sustainability of modern livestock production systems.

Dr. Rahman brings extensive international experience to his role, having served for seven years as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Farm Power and Machinery at Sylhet Agricultural University (SAU), Bangladesh. He earned his Ph.D. in Biological Systems Engineering with a specialization in Precision Livestock Management from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. In his doctoral research, he established cyber-physical framework by applying artificial intelligence (AI) tools for monitoring livestock behavioral traits that affects mortality. He also holds an M.S. in Farm Power and Machinery (2018) and a B.Sc. in Agricultural Engineering (2016) from Bangladesh Agricultural University.

His expertise spans computer vision, machine learning, precision livestock management, agricultural machinery design, and bio-system engineering. During his tenure at SAU, Dr. Rahman led research groups in diverse projects, including agricultural machinery automation, post-harvest processing, and remote sensing. He is a recipient of research grants from the University Grant Commission (UGC) and a prestigious ICT fellowship from the Government of Bangladesh for his contributions to automation and computer vision research.

Dr. Rahman has published numerous articles in national and international journals and is a professional member of American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers. He is passionate about leverage cutting-edge technologies (AI, data analytics, and sensor applications) in agriculture to enhance productivity, sustainability, and innovation for a better future. Outside of his professional work, he enjoys camping, playing soccer, and spending quality time with his family.
